TCC embarks on Eleven-Day Concert Tour to Spain

The Turtle Creek Chorale’s 30th Anniversary Season concludes with an eleven-day concert tour of Spain. Tour participants depart Dallas July 1 and will offer concert performances in Madrid, Seville and Barcelona.

Not since 1995 has the organization traveled outside North America. According to Artistic Director Dr. Jonathan Palant, “We are very proud of our accomplishments and want to share them with the world. Our mission to Entertain, Educate, Unite and Uplift is never more tangible than when traveling together.”

Under Palant’s musical direction and organized by Music Celebrations International, a professional tour company specializing in custom tours for arts organizations, the Turtle Creek Chorale arrives in Madrid one day prior to the start of Europe’s largest GLBT street celebration, Madrid Pride. The ensemble will march in the Pride Parade and then offer a short performance in front of one million spectators in Plaza de España. A formal performance takes place Sunday evening, July 4 in the Sabatini Gardens in front of the Madrid Royal Palace as part of the Festival Verano de La Villa.

The Chorale makes a brief stop in Cordoba to tour before arriving in Seville, one of the world’s greatest tourist centers. Extensive sightseeing and a concert at the Centro Cultural Cajasol are planned.

Barcelona is the final stop on the tour, but only after overnight stays in both Grenada and Valencia. While in Barcelona, the group will visit Gaudi’s famous church, La Sagrada Familia, travel to Montserrat, a working monastery and have plenty of time to walk Las Ramblas, the renowned shopping avenue.

The Turtle Creek Chorale is a featured performer in the Catalan Federation of Choruses International Choral Festival being held at the Esglesia de Santa Maria del Pi. Panteres Grogues, Barcelona’s newest gay and lesbian chorus, will host a formal welcoming party following this performance

Sean Baugh, President of the Turtle Creek Chorale, says, “The membership could not be more excited to share the Chorale’s mission with the people of Spain. While we have not traveled abroad in 15 years, our message remains the same—we are all one though music. It is an honor to represent the City of Dallas and the United States of America on this tour.”
