I was wondering if there is a DVD available that shows the Chorale performing their Monks doing the Hallelujah Chorus. I saw this on television some years ago and would very much like to have a copy for my library; it was Brilliant!! Thanks much

Good Afternoon Gentlemen!! I am a life long, and very
best friend of one of your members, David Sirmeyer. I am happy to say
that David is flying me down in June to see your concert. He speaks so
highly of the choir all of the time, and I am anxious to see your
performance. I am sure it is going to be a wonderful experience, and
one that I will really appreciate....See you in June!! Laurie

As a former singer for the Cincinnati Men's Chorus (I have chosen to take a hiatus while pursuing an additional degree) I can testify to the powerful and transforming effect that GALA choruses have on the lives they touch. Watching your documentary tonight reminded me of all the times I have heard people say "the chorus saved my life" or words to that effect. Please keep up the good work that has inspired me, and so many others. Your love changes things. Break a leg tomorrow Gentlemen.

I feel compelled to write that I have just finished
watching Harmony on either LINK or FSTV. When the show first came on and
I looked up the content I felt prone to find another channel. While
searching for another channel through a menu search I found the music
compelling. Then I began to listen to the stories. I was drawn in.
My wife usually watches the Today Show as she dresses for work. I turned
her TV to Harmony as well and told her she needed to listen. In no time
at all she too was listening, more to the stories than to the music.
With her history, or should I say habit, of watching the Today Show this
was no small achievement.
I have long been a listener of Symphonic and Chorale music. I was
unaware of Turtle Creek Chorale but was quickly delighted with what I
was hearing.
The subject of sexual preference is not one that I care to dedicate much
time to but the subject of homosexuality is often a subject for my wife
and me. We accept homosexuality but do not find it a subject worthy of
discussing any more than we discuss heterosexuality.
My wife has a cousin who is estranged from his mother in large part due
to the small rural town attitudes of his mother.
I lost a very dear friend to Aids almost 20 years ago. We had been
friends since childhood but he had never told me he was gay. At about
the age of 25 to 30 I confronted him with rumors that I had been hearing
of his homosexuality. He confirmed his orientation and we followed with
a very informative discussion for me. Eventually he would invite me to
go with him to metropolitan gay bars with him to show me the lifestyle
in a bit more depth.
He and I were friends based on both of our moral rational philosophies.
Without his assistance and prompting I may never have attended college.
He took me to college with him and I sat in on classes with him. He was
a year older and I was still in High School.
This was a working class, heavily industrial, manufacturing, and
processing center. I was a macho athlete with those unusual
philosophical interests. He was more religious and academic. I worked at
a gas station before and after school and he worked at a local drug
store, soda-ice-cream bar, and magazine stand. He would stop by the gas
station and we would talk at length. I had been going to the magazine
stand for many years to buy my boxing and body building magazines that
were only available at the drug store he worked at. I would drink ice
cream floats and talk to him at length.
We called him "Preacher Charlie" because he often carried his bible with
him and attended the local First Baptist church three and four days per
week, twice on Sunday.
Charlie earned his degrees all the way up to Ph.D. and became the
superintendent of a local school district Special Education. He also
converted to Judaism.
In our "coming out" conversation he acknowledged that he could no longer
remain a Baptist once he accepted his homosexuality. I asked about his
dating of beautiful black women while we were in college. They had been
fellow students of both of us in High School. He said that he was trying
but sensed he could not be heterosexual. He felt that he could break off
the relationships better if he had also crossed over racial barriers; no
one expected the relationships to last anyway he said. This was late
1960's, early 1970's.
This was during Vietnam and I acquired a very low draft number and
failed to register for a deferment. I left college and enlisted in the
military. Our lives took different paths but we would run into one
another infrequently but we would usually take the time to chat at
length when we did see each other. I asked him why he had never told me
of his homosexuality. He said I didn't need to know; it could not have
added anything to our relationship. He told me of a disease that he had
that the doctors didn't know how to treat very well. He never used the
name that at that time was little known anyway.
He died way too soon; the world was a better place with him in it.
Now my wife and I have a grand daughter who is the product of our
straight son and an arranged relationship of his with a lesbian woman
acquaintance. Our son was room mates with a long time friend who was in
college to become a coach. Through female acquaintances in the physical
education department; friends of friends as it were, he met a woman who
had been spending lots of money through artificial inseminations to
become pregnant. Our son in his naiveté succeeded in his task to help
her for free but with provisions to be recognized as the father. They
succeeded. Then, almost immediately after the birth, mother came down
with a lymph gland cancer that could not be cured after three years and
many cycles of trying. Mother died when our grand daughter was three
years old. Since this was an arrangement of convenience and not one of
love, it made the issue of custody very difficult.
Now our younger son who has been in the Army for over 6 years now, and
who was a college wrestler on scholarship at a Baptist University, has
befriended many young ladies on the basketball team. He enjoys their
company better than with most others. Is seems that most of those young
lady basketball players are gay. Gradually they began inviting him to
their local gay bar hangout. He now goes their frequently and finds the
company fun and the male attention flattering. He is quite sure and
confident in his heterosexuality but finds it flattering and funny to
have so many gay men hit on him. He makes no secret of his orientation.
He even tells of the lesbian ladies saying they might have to convert
because he is so cute. It is a brave new world as we begin to accept
each other as we are and not feel threatened by it.
The documentary "Power of Harmony" was compelling in its revelation of
the struggles that gay people must go through. Bravo!

I became aware of Tim Seelig and the Turtle Creek Chorale through Ronald Shirey (Dallas Symphony Chorus) and my association with Cynthia Dorn-Navarette of "New Arts Six" in 1992.
Having been a former member of both the Morehouse College Glee Club [Atlanta, GA] and the Atlanta Symphony Chorus & Chamber Choir (under the direction of Robert Shaw), I was/am most fond of TTBB choral arrangements. So I was in absolute awe of the Chorale when I photographed the daringly, wonderful, staged, all-male production - with the exception of the role of Dorothy - of "The Wizard of OZ" in the early 1990s.
Soon afterwards, the Chorale was scheduled to host a collaborative concert at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center with the Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT), New Arts Six, and the Men's Chorus of First Baptist - Hamilton Park; entitled "United We Sing".
Because of my genuine respect for the level of musicianship of both Dr. Seelig and the Chorale, I assisted in the teaching of Michael Babatunde Olatunji's Christmas carol - "Betelehemu" as arranged by Wendell Whalum, Sr. - and proposed the inclusion of my TTBB arrangement of the South African National Anthem; "N'Kosi Sikelel i'Afrika" (God Bless Africa).
Unfortunately, I was not present during the performance-recording of the work. But during the 2002 American Choral Directors' Association (ACDA) Convention in San Antonio, I accidentally met Dr. Seelig; and was informed that the work had been recorded and published work by Shawnee Press. I was/am speechless of such an honor granted by him.
My sincerest congratulations to you and the Chorale for the many years of outstanding musicianship - par excellence - and services you have rendered to the musical community in Dallas; the state of Texas; and worldwide. Likewise, I thank you for the non-judgmental, sincere, and encouraging advice you have rendered to me during my varying stages of development as a musician; and a man. You a rarity among men; and the flesh-embodiment of Rudyard Kipling's words:
"If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch,...Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it". Bravo !!!
Jabriel Jones San Antonio, TX - Friday, March 30, 2007 at 4:55a (CST)
Howdy, boys! I just got the news from my own artistic director that Timothy Seelig will be retiring soon. How lucky I am to finally see you all in person in Montreal (2004)at GALA! I only regret leaving Texas in 1988 to pursue music in Los Angeles based on the missed opportunity to work with Mr. Seelig. I thought of your organization often over the last fifteen years, and at GALA Mr. Seelig was king enough to allow me to address the Chorale in the lobby of the concert hall just before their moving performance. Being a graduate of Mesquite High School, I know the standards are high in the world of creating music in Texas, and TCC represents the finest in the acheivement of musical excellence (Of course, I am not downplaying what we do here in L.A., you understand!). So Here's to you, Mr. Seelig--your legacy will no doubt live on for many quarter-centuries to come! With Love and Music, Rob McElroy (T2, Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles)

Turtle Creek Chorale is great...but when are you going to reply to the Helsinki Complaints Choir? The challenge is out there...just visit youtube and see for yourself.I will assist in any way I am able...but I can't carry a tune in a bag!

As a chorale alumni, it was such a moving and joyful experience to attend the Family concert on Dec. 17th. The singing was sublime, and the hilarity was a welcome escape from the hectic pace of the holiday season. Thank you, men of the TCC and a special thank you to Dr. Tim Seelig, who, to me, personifies all the traits that I admire: Love, Generosity, and Compassion. Also, Tim's solo in "The First Noel" was beautifully resonant, warm, and full of feeling. Thanks again for another terrific Holiday concert!
Tom Fowler Dallas, TX - Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 9:51a (CST)
Your CD's are on my gift lists and so, I have been able to enjoy the marvel of your singing. Just sorry that I am not able to travel to hear your chorus in person. Thank you for hours of beauty to the ears and mind.
Norita Albuquerque,NM - Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at 6:29p (CST)
Pipes and Drums was my 3rd TCC holiday concert and I think one of the best! The organ performance and accompaniment really rocked my world! Russ Rieger is a huge assest to your group and staff! The Drum and Bugle Corp were just awesome and the sax solo was beautiful beyond words. But the Lay Family Organ played by Russ was probably the star of the show. Finally, I'm not a huge fan of The Little Drummer Boy but your arrangement was stunning! Job well done boys!! Thank you.

Attended our 5th Holiday show on the 17th. As we sat eating our bread pudding at intermission, our 13 year old said "I like this family tradition." We had to agree! The concert was wonderful, and we are sad to see Dr. Seelig go. If you're looking for some new ideas for funny holiday fare, I wanted to suggest that you give a listen to Trout Fishing in America's CD "Merry Fishes to All". There are some wonderful, clever, and funny holiday tunes on this family favorite CD...I would love to see them arranged for a chorus! I think their song "I Got a Cheese Log" would be a hit with your audience. Also, "Santa Brought me Clothes". A new holiday classic perhaps? Thanks again for another wonderful concert! Sarah Scott

Tim and the Chorale, My friend moved here from San Fransisco the day of the Heartland mens chorus concert invitational. As you know we sang the "When we no longer touch" Music. I invited him to the concert as it was his first time here in Dallas and didn't know anyone. I had him watch the Documentary that very afternoon. I had told him also that day that I too was a Positive man and that the chorale was a very important part of my life. He went to the concert that evening with little expectations and he just gave me this poem that he wrote about the experience he had. I wanted to share the gratitude with you all.
Requiem in Dallas
Upon Hearing the Turtle Creek Chorale
When We No Longer Touch
Overtones arrive
from loss and from loss
rise into the Meyerson -
diminish across
travertine and glass -
forte' into the past.
I am prepared to weep
but not to unmask.
Mother, I blinded you.
I drove toward the steep,
endless sleep
in shame
and at the edge
came a glorious man.
He sang and as many men
he sang the life back into me -
unpuzzled by my yellowed face,
my immunity to pain
whilst his own end
draws upon him
and upon me. I live
to be his immunity
and in his blood I course
against the quiet inanity.
Oh sparkling tongues -
arced myriad of breath,
rung with light,
a virus alive in spite of you,
a thief - sing full
this dim chamber with belief.
Yours are not the mouths
of the dead, for fire gathers
at your lips. Words wavering and red.
Burn out the murderous complacency
as your voices spread
as tears are bled from the numbness.
And, know that in the wake
of your dirge, after good-bye and after
grief, courage seeds urgencies
unknown to you. From your song
the living word is sown and branches
ever outward on it's own.

I enjoyed(for a second time) the broadcast of the Power of Harmony. I was moved by the stories of those courageous members. Perhaps there should be a subtitle, The Power of Dignity.

Dear Members of Turtle Creek Chorale, It was our rare treat after Texas "rellies" visits in November --attending your December 3 concert en route north. Just ordering tickets before our trip previewed warm Texas welcomes—thanks, John!! Despite the frosty temps, added warmth came when we met your great supporter, The Hon. Harryette Earhardt, seated next to us, and learned of your impact both on the arts and diversity "education"for the greater community. She insisted we meet your director who was amazingly generous and gracious in his welcome after such an energetic production, He urged me to write a letter to share a bit with all of you, my inadequate thank you for all your music has meant to us. Now: short story long!
Exactly a year ago we traveled north in a Texas construction zone with a lane shift left to two-way traffic in south-bound lanes. Coming over a rise, we narrowly averted a head-on with an ambulance travelling in our lane (no lights or siren, no other traffic in sight?!) I marvel at my husband's reaction and skills to pull us away in split seconds without a roll-over onto the low, dug-out northbound roadbed! Our cousin's husband, driving home mere hours later in a similar construction zone was less fortunate: he was killed instantly in head-on impact. We've said for a year the Angel of Death's wings brushed by us-- "Not today, not you, " only to fly to Waco for Bill. Each month in 2006 brought at least one other death into our family circle or to friends. Both of us experienced one death of extreme loss, in each case the sudden tragic loss of a third adult son. We created sympathy cards and letters, paid condolence visits without end, one even as we were packed to leave on our trip, Discussions and listenings; gallons of solitary or shared tears marked most weeks. We were comforted to be comforters. Though I questioned one particularly wrenching six months intense grieving with a surviving parent, something long-time friends --respectively a grief counselor and hospice chaplain—advised me to avoid. But each time I bent some words to do so, I felt compelled to go on (the deacon-for-life thing?). The survivor's subsequent death from medical reasons (I believe a broken heart) stunned, Someone suggested I had been called back (after 33 years, mind you) to pray for him, to ask others for prayers. That halo didn't fit, the thought didn't quite resonate. Guess what did?
A soloist sang, "Sing Me to Heaven" at a pre-planned memorial service for a self-proclaimed "professional volunteer", a fellow church member we admired deeply for his relentless giving of himself, for his great style in determinedly fighting/beating HIV/AIDS for 14 years. I recalled you from a PBS special and ordered your CD with that song which has brought us so much comfort!
As a long-time choral singer I am so impressed with your musical talents, your wide range of repertoire, your dedication to bring about such wonderfully sacred renditions plus Vegas-should-be-so-entertaining parodies. For your many recordings for those, like us, at great distance from you. Not to mention your individual stores of courage, bright as that of our friend, above---referencing both this letter, and his celestial location-- in getting on with life while superbly sharing sparkling gifts. Hearing about the concert, friends here think we need to rent a bus to travel down next year, Watch for a spike in Michigan CD sales (we brought home 8, friends ordered in November just hearing our concert plans ).
For what you mean to us and to myriad others, I keep you in my heart …and my ears! Let music live!!

To all of the TCC, Tonight my husband and I attended our first TCC concert and WOW what a show! We were blown away by everything from the wonderful song choices to the theatrics and performing. The entire concert was delightfully entertaining. You are guaranteed that we will be "repeat" guests! Thank you for a wonderful evening! All of your hard work definitely paid off!

Our local PBS station just showed your story called "The Power of Harmony" for the second time, and I continue to be inspired by your work. I especially enjoyed the song "I Ain't Afriad". While your singing is world-class, your presence and courage have probably made it safer for gays and lesbians - more than you know. Thank you!
Nancy Klepsch Troy, NY - Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 10:36a (CST)

Last night my family & I attended Pipes & Drums. We totally enjoyed this concert. TCC's Holiday concert is always fantastic & we look forward to it every year. It was a little sad when we realized that this is the last Holiday concert Dr. Seelig will direct. Thank you Dr. Seelig for 20 great years!

Annie Albritton was such a brilliant musician and wonderful friend to so many of you there in the TCC. I can't imagine Your grief upon learning of her passing. A lovely light upon this earth has left us....however, there is another smiling star in our heavens, I am confident. I am so sad for our collective loss. I loved her, too. Your Sister, Janey Hall
Janey Hall Atlanta, GA - Friday, September 13, 2006 at 8:01p (CST)
As a five-year former member of TCC, I was grieved to hear about the recent passing of our long-time accompanist and composer/arranger, Anne Allbritton. "Annie" always lit up the room with her smile, and somehow managed to help Tim keep 240 guys singing on tempo and in tune. She'll be one of those people who will never be forgotten as long as there is a Turtle Creek Chorale.

My husband and I saw the PBS special and were very moved. We are also singers with gay relatives, one a cousin lost to AIDS. You are most welcome in our home and family any time. I am so glad you are a family to each other. Peace be with you.

I just saw the Power of Harmony on the local PBS station. Thank you for a moving, postive and uplifting look at gay men. Your music was wonderful. I especially liked " I Ain't Afraid". Keep up the good work. I hope I will be able to see you in concert.
Wes Davis Henderson, NV - Sunday, September 3, 2006 at 1:07a (CST)
I caught the tail end of the extrodinary film on our local PBS station as part of a fund raising effort. I was so moved that I had to go out and get the DVD.
As a gay man, to see the "family" emerge from these committed men made me well up with tears over and over. It is not only their committment to the Choir itself but also their committment to each other that makes the overall experience one that everyone should see, take to heart and use a basis for the way they see and treat everyone they come in contact with. Gay and straight alike.
The PBS station which aired this received phone calls from viewers condeming the station for airing this program. Apparently they weren't listening. Apparently we still have a lot of work to do.
I will look forward to seeing more from the gentlemen of this choir and hopefully will have the pleasure to experience them in person.
I wish you all the best....Paul

TCC, I happend to come across, on TV, "The Power of Harmony". I am a married family man. I am not gay. I was so moved by this film that I cannot describe it. The music, the stories - it was all so good and real and positive. There is no doubt that this world needs more good, inclusive and loving things in it. Thanks for sharing your organization and music and selves in this film. I felt good just watching it!
Dave Beatty South Bend, IN - Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 10:06p (CST)
Thank you. I wish I had the funds to buy the DVD for all my friends and family. As others, I happened to come across the program on PBS, locally. As a former member of the Lexington Men's Chorus, Lexington, Kentucky, the program brought back the memories and brotherhood of such a choir. Please continue the good work and may God truly bless you all.

I have just watched the documentary, The Power Of Harmony. As a member of KCET here in Los Angeles, I just happened to catch it on the tube....Fantastic,Powerful,Inspirational. As a straight man who has lost friends to HIV/AIDS, I was deeply moved... by not only the performances, but the personal stories as well. As my mother(a Good Episcopalian) used to say.."The Good Lord loves ya!!!!!" Keep up the good work.
Dawson C. Mays Burbank, CA - Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 11:28p (CST)
While visiting a dear friend in Dallas recently, I was introduced to the Turtle Creek Chorale by a former member and the "Power of Harmony". The performance was earthshattering...finally I was watching what I consider real gay men in a family setting...not the version of gay people portrayed in the limelight as in "Will and Grace" and "Queer Eye". Being a gay man and a lover of fine music drew me in like a stong vacuum and then the music throw arms around me and hugged me like a huge bear. I was touched beyond all reason...I cried, laughed and I rejoiced at a magnificent piece of television. I am sharing this with my MCC Church and everyone I meet. I am a fan forever and I hope that someday you come to St. Pete to do a concert with our own Una Voce. After listening to you all...now I know what heaven sounds like. Your brother in Christ, Lou Sandone

I recently planned ANOTHER trip to Dallas around your "Turtles and Tuna" performance and was thoroughly entertained again! But more important, I've watched The Power of Harmony at least four times, and it never fails to move me to tears. Your many stories are representative of us all, and those of us in other choruses look to you guys as trailblazers and inspiration in many, many ways. Thanks for your fine examples as musicians and human beings. Ron Jones, Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus

I also thank PBS for presenting your powerful story. Theresa Andrews

WOOOOW!!!!! is all I think to say about you guys Turtles And Tuna performance. I attended the June 25th show, and it was great..SO GREAT!! I have been a huge fan of you guys for some time now. The impact you have on people from your donations of money, taking care of the sick to your sharing your beutiful music is truley selfless. To be a part of a group of people like you guys would be a life long dream of mine. I love you all, the greatest of luck to you all.

My mother, husband and I recently had the pleasure of seeing the Turtle Creek Chorale perform in Turtles & Tuna. My mother has seen the chorale perform numerous times (and raves about you guys!), but my husband and I had never been able to catch a show. Needless to say, we were blown away! Such incredible, incredible talent. We haven't been able to stop talking about the experience since we came back home to Arkansas. Kudos to the TCC -we'll definitely be back for the Christmas show.

Watching the extraordinary "Power of Harmony" on PBS the other night, bitter-sweet memories came flooding back. My dear friend John Thomas was one of the proud early (founding?) members of the Chorale, so we got to hear you all sing in Carnegie Hall in 1993. Alas, that was the last and only time I had that pleasure. Previously, during one of my business trips to Dallas, John took me to one of your rehearsals. As a member of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, that was particularly interesting to me, and I was awed by the fact that those gatherings were such fun, without sacrificing the discipline needed to create a chorus as truly great as the TCC is. You are truly the gold standard of men's choral music, not just of gay men's choruses. As I watched the documentary, I felt the pain of John's loss, but recalled the love he had for his "brothers in song." I hope you all will return to New York City soon. I've ordered many of your CD's, but as your premier fan in the Big Apple, I'd love to hear the real thing. Keep it up guys. You truly do "make a joyful noise" and give us so many reasons to be proud. Love,Vic

What a wonderful story. I was moved by your story and your music. I recently visited Vancouver and had the pleasure and honour of attending a rehearsal of the Vancouver Men's Choir of which my friend is a member. We were made to feel so welcome and it was a rare treat to see the amazing creative process behind the voices. I only wish we could have been there long enough to see their big performance.

I just saw your wonderful documentary on KPBS here in San Diego. At first I flipped past it, thinking it a religious program, but then I realized what it was. I cried most of the way through, then ordered one of your CDs (I'll Miss Loving You, which I performed on trumpet with the Gay Men's Chorus in San Diego some years ago). I kept thinking how awful it is that the new pope proclaimed our love a "weak love," and how angry I am that such statements only assure misguided parents and loved ones they are following god's word by hating us, or closing us off from their lives, and how sad that all is. That said, your show managed to give me some hope that even after losing so much, maybe I can get past the pain, too. Thank you.

Just saw your documentary on KCET here in Los Angeles. What a great story to see told! Congratulations on such good work.

I just finished watching your PBS documentary, I don't know where to start. We live close to San Francisco, and we consider ourselves to be socially active liberals. We recently became Jewish, when we spoke to the rabbi one of his requirements was that members must be willing to love and accept ALL persons. We wouldn't have it any other way. According to our beliefs GOD did make you, and God doesn't make mistakes. We love you all. We are touched by your tenacity, grace, and yes...ability to create harmony in a world that does not help. Thank you for your talent and your candor.

My husband and I just viewed a beautiful story about your group on our local television station. It was a fabulous presentation and we sat with tears in our eyes. Very well done and we appreciated learning even more about the gay community. Every Blessing, Jeanne and Joe

We've never laughed more than with the performers in "Turtles and Tuna". We hope you take it on the road - we'd travel to Houston or Austin to see it again!

Thank you for the wonderful "Power of Harmony" presentation...powerful and uplifting. And just plain beautiful! Are any of your pieces available in piano transcriptions? "My Serenade," "I Am Not Afraid," etc? Thank you.

To the inspirtional men of the TCC. I just caught the tale end of your PBS show. It was incredibly moving and heartwrenching. I have two sons, 3 and 9. My only wish is and always has been for them to grow up and know pure joy from living true to their source. I'm writing to tell you that I would be proud to have them grow up to be as caring, intelligent, soulful and connected to spirit as all of you are. I have been lucky enough to have been brought up in a non-religious and therefore non-prejudice family. This has given me the gift of knowing I will love my sons whomever they are. Although your stories were painful for you to tell and painful for me to hear, in telling them you are healing. Healing not only yourselves but the world. Know that for my sons and their generation, your pain will have been transformed into acceptance and love. I would be proud to call every single one of you my father, my brother, my friend. May your light continue to illuminate the darkness of fear and my you serve as a beacon of love and acceptance for all of humankind. Teri Lynn Mabbitt Louisville, CO

As I sit here in my home watching your extraordinary documentary on PBS, there are equal measures of tears and laughter that spring from the beauty of your authenticity! Thank you for your perserverence, tenacity and courage in light of the personal tragedies you've all faced. You inspire me more than I can say, and your music brings so much peace to my heart. I hope the Chorale will visit Los Angeles soon, where you'll be welcomed with open arms.

Gentlemen, I have in the past years always enjoyed the TCC singing ever since you sang Sing for the Cure both times up here in NYC, and have all of your CD's, the documentary and the Breathe book sent to us by a turtle (see below). I heard about the Turtles in Tuna concert from a friend I have in the chorale whom I met at Montreal GALA - a very sweet guy and diehard "turtle" by the name of Ron Savage. He had called me up a few months ago, and said that this was a show that just could not be missed - PERIOD! Heck he even offfered to buy our tickets, and put my group up with some guys in your choir if he could find rooms, and after his 9th call, we finally got the point! Goodness he can be so persistant! :) THANK YOU Ron!!!!
On the show, I honestly just dont even know where to begin. First off, please let Ron know that Mikey, Donna, Toni, Edward, Denise, Pegi, James, Dakesa, and the entire Feed the Noodle Shop gang were all there last night from NYC - all 18 of us.
We flew in just for the show. I wanted to send this note before we all catch our flight this AM. I just can not even begin to start on how absolutely fantastic this show was. We are currently trying to bring down even more of our group to see the weekend show, with 29 more committed and planned so far if we can get tickets. Additionally I have already sent Ron an email letting him know that by the time we get back to NYC, I will make sure that my review of your show will be sent in to all of the gay rags up here in NYC. AS an FYI - I have heard that our guys at the NYCGMC were "just ALL a twitter" as Ron would say that you guys got Tuna and not NYCGMC! For those reading this review, if you love, and I mean you LOVE the heart and soul experience behind what the TCC does and is about, then you just can not miss this hysterical show. I swear I hadn't laughed so hard in so long! Since last night was a packed house, I would even say that standing room only is just fine if the facility allows it. You just have to see Turtles in Tuna! "pssst - maybe you all can extend the show another weekend???" It is by far one of the best GALA choral shows we have seen in quite some time. I am so happy for you guys! This show deserves absolutely nothing short of copius fantatic reviews and attendance. Best of luck and maybe I will you again on the Sat or Sun matinees. KUDOS! KUODS! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

How Moved I was by the program. The strength that all of you give off radiates. Your Countinance beams in rich supply!!!! I have a opened heart after this morning. May all of you live blessed lives and how lucky any of us would be to have you in our lives. Bravo

Beautiful show on PBS . Full of love that brought tears to my eyes! Everyone has written such touching tributes. Alas I am not a writer so won't even try. But thank you for the show, wonderful music-especially "I Ain't Afraid" and the srories of compassion.
Debbie
PS.Wouldn't it be great if Pastor Joel invited you down to his church? PS.PS. on a lighter note....the Dr. director looks better now than when he was married as a pastor with hair!!! Not many people look better as they age. I think it was an air of peace about him.

As I begin to write, I am still wiping away the tears. Now, do not be dismayed. These are tears of great joy, pride, and love for all of the family of the Turtle Creek Chorale. I was so moved by the small portion of "The Power of Harmony" that I saw on June 11, that I immediately ordered the DVD. This afternoon, I sat down, alone, and watched it in it's entirety. And, of course, what I discoved when I had finished was that I was not at all alone, but that the music had surrounded me;the lives had surrounded me, with great love. As a 50 year old gay man, I, too, have felt those feelings and sang those songs in my heart. My continued prayers and support to all of you. You indeed have made the world a lighter and brighter place.
John Buchanan Memphis, TN - Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 4:46p (CST)
Where to begin? Heartbreaking, inspiring, encouraging! I just watched The Power of Harmony on PBS, which I taped a few days ago. Have never heard of the Chorale, but wanted to learn about it. I expected to hear great music, which I did. What I didn't know was that I would be so moved, touched and saddened by the heart-warming and gut-wrenching stories of some of your members. I was especially touched by the song, I Ain't Afraid especially because of what is going on in the world today. My love and support to all of you. Carol A. Oliva June 20, 2006

Dear Tim and TCC Members: I just watched "The Power of Harmony" on our local PBS station and was moved by the magnificent stories and, as always, your beautiful music. To all of the (singing and non-singing) members of the TCC: I watched The Power of Harmony on PBS the first night it showed and then again on a repeat airing. I just received my DVD copy of this awesome production and I plan on purchasing copies for friends and members of my family. You are all truely inspiring and I thank you deeply for your courage to share your stories and spread your message! Keep up the awesome work and God bless all of you! Warmest Regards, James Naylor

Gentlemen, I had the pleasure of watching "The Power of Harmony" on a satellite broadcast of PBS this past Friday evening. Thank you so very much! As a survivor of "church wars" and the horrors that can be committed against church musicians, I was deeply moved by both your repertoire and the stories of suffering in the name of religion. I sing with a male voice choir in Cambridge, Ontario and find that there is no other choral sound that stirs my emotions in the same manner. Your work has great value, and without hesitation I must say the sound of the chorale is second to none. Blessings from the north! Bill Labron

I was extremely touched by the Power of Harmony last night. To put such a human face on the discrimation suffered by many who have alternative lifestyles can, hopefully, we a step on the road to inclusion and acceptance of diversity. So many of those seen are men of faith, the kind that should make some Christians ashamed of their intolerance & cruelty.

I just watched "The Power of Harmony" on PBS. I was moved to tears, laughter and smiles. I thank you all for opening your lives, hearts, and most intimate moments to the world. Hi - my husband and I just happened to catch The Power of Harmony film on PBS last night. What joy it gives us to know such a group of people exist, and to see a positive message on television. Best wishes to all the members of Turtle Creek Chorale - Bravo!

Dear men, I'm a USAA Scenic Designer and a college professor. My wife is a Costume Designer and professor. We just The Power of Harmony and were moved profoundly by your stories. Yes, we're in Theatre, so it's like "preaching to the choir," but we hope many people will see the program, so they can learn what it is to be a man. The courage, the dignity and the grace demonstrated by your members should help to show those who fear and who hate that they have chosen to do so as a lifestyle, and your membership is just being who they are. You are all remarkable, and have shown us that there is hope for humans. Thank you! By the way, you guys are also a damned good chorus!
John H. Hood and Susan Johnson-Hood Worcester, MA - Friday, June 16, 2006 at 10:24p (CST)
The documentary on your chorus was quite moving. Thank you for sharing your stories, and your songs. While it was sad to see the pain your members have suffered, it is always wonderful seeing gay men facing strife with dignity and sending a message of hope and love through music.

By absolute chance, I stumbled upon your wonderful PBS special on NY's Channel 13 last evening right at the start. It was one of the most powerful hours I've seen on TV in a long time. The music, the stories, all very moving. As for community, this is the first time I've seen such a positive group of people as performers and human beings from your city. My 14 years in Dallas (1980-94) somehow did not allow me to cross your path, or I would have loved to have been part of it. The closest in similarity was my one season with Omaha's River City Mixed Chorus in 1996. I've not been able to be part of anything like that since. I hope all the music featured in the program is on your Best of CD. Otherwise, I may just have to get them all. You should all be very proud of your efforts and I hope the TCC becomes a regular feature on PBS.

Last night I was zipping through the TV stations when your song "I Ain't Afraid" stopped me cold. I loved the program and was touched by the stories your members shared. Please sing LOUDER we need to hear the message. Thank you be well.

I saw "The Power of Harmony" tonight on our PBS station here in NYC, and I was blown away. The music was beautiful and the stories were incredibly touching. As a person with a disability, I know what it is like to be marginalized, and empathized greatly with the folks in TCC. My favorite part was the adoption of little Christian from Guatemala. My husband and I are adopting a baby boy from Guatemala, and should see him for the first time in a couple of weeks. I sobbed through that part of the show. Thanks for sharing your music and yourselves.

I just enjoyed your " Power of Harmony" concert on PBS out of NYC. DID ANY OF YOU KNOW MY NEPHEW CHRISTOPHER JOSEPH RICE FROM NEW YORK STATE. HE DIED IN THE DALLAS AREA IN 1991 AND HAD A FRIEND KEN.

I just watched The Power of Harmony on PBS here in NYC tonight, and had to write. Thank you for making such a beautiful film, and for all your years of singing witness to the power of love. I was at the GALA festival of choruses in 1996, and the incredible power of music to change hearts that I experienced there all came flooding back to me as I watched your film. I am going to suggest that our (Lutheran) Commission for Gay & Lesbian People get the video and show it as part of their education of congregations. Blessings to you all!

Guys-I just set my TIVO for Saturday night, here in Kansas City! I can't wait to see the documentary. I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your performance at The HIV Prevention Leadership Summit. It was a wonderful way to start the conference. Being with the delegation from Missouri and Kansas the songs you sang were from our backyards, Somewhere Over the Rainbow and then the song about Rosa Parks and the KKK. I was blown away by the moving sentiments expressed in the lyrics of your number. I can only hope that one day we need songs like this!! Thank you for all you do.

I just saw The Power of Harmony on our PBS station here in the Chicago area. As a Music Therapist, I understand the power and the healing that music has to offer, and your use of it is fantastic. I wish you all the best of luck and happiness. I wish for you that the power of your harmony will help begin to mend the bridges that have been destroied by intolerance and ignorance. I in fact will keep you all in my prayers. Keep singing. I hope you all get to this area for a concert because I would love to come see you all in performance.

I just caught part your documentary on PBS and I was so wonderfully suprised to see the supportive community that you have created. I have always been completely disgusted with the hypocracy facing gays from the church as I feel my town has been consummed with as well. This has been further enforced in me since one of my best friends recently came out to me. Now it seems, that the equality that I have always stood up for has even more reason and purpose now. Thank you for sharing your perserverence and hope with me through this beautiful film.

I was in tears watching The Power of Harmony on my local PBS station. We are fortunate here in Palm Springs to have the Caballeros Gay Men's Chorus which is also wonderful. My son and his partner took my husband and I to a show for mother's day, and it was fabulous. My heart went out to the fellow on your show who was calling his parents after 23 years, and all the other men who had stories of strained relationships with their families. I am sad for those families who are really missing out on having such caring and talented men in their lives. When I was married a year ago I requested that my son and his partner both walk me down the aisle. Next to actually marrying my wonderful husband, it was one of the most memorable moments of my life. I am hoping your documentary will open the eyes and hearts of parents who have passed judgment on their gay children. Living in an extremely gay-friendly area, it is easy to forget that in other parts of the country and world things are not so easy for members of the gay community. My sincere best wishes to all of you. Your voices are golden and thank you for sharing the stories of your lives. I will be buying the DVD and sending it to my friends!

I have been a singing member of the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus for 4.5 years now as a Tenor 1 (woohoo!), and I have to say that I love them and you all even more now. I just finished watching the documentary "The Power of Harmony" and it just absolutely blew me away, and several times, brought me to tears. It made me realize the joys, the heartaches, and the struggles we have yet to fight in this sometimes, well, all the time, unaccepting and cruel world we live in on a daily basis. Turtle Creek: You are truly amazing men, and I'm so happy to call you my "brothers in song." Together we will break down the barriers of hate, intollerance, and homophobia in this world. I really could relate wholeheartedly to everything that was said and discussed in this absolutely phenomenal documentary about you all. I feel SO much closer to you all, even though I've not met you all, and I hope to sometime meet you all when I get to Dallas. You are all beautiful in both heart and soul and in song! Thank you for standing with me in song and as a brotherhood of out and proud gay men! Please visit us next time you are in Minneapolis! Myself, and TCGMC would love to see you! LOVING YOU FOREVER! Jason

"From the Heart" is still an important part of my life, and has been since my brother gave it to me before he died in 1996. I think he knew I how I would need it. Now, in June 2006, three of the tracks are going to be shared during the wedding of my lifelong best friend. You were there for me when Will died and now you're here for us for a happy day. Thank you ALL for sharing your gifts with us.

Having just seen the documentary "The Power of Harmony" I am so glad I recorded it. Your chorus is amazing! The songs you sang gave me goosebumps and made me cry. You guys rock! I was so touched by the broadcast on KERA. I was around here when the first people in the community got sick. I cared for some of The Chorale when the epidemic first hit. I remember just how wonderful it was to see you all sing. We looked to you for inspiration during the first part of the dying times and your words and music gave us the courage we needed to take care of the sick and dying in our community. I just want to thank you for the courage that you brought to us all. I also want to thank you for being musical ambassadors. Blessings Upon All Of Us. Lisa

I watched the documentary early this morning around 1am (Friday June 9th 2006.) The love generated on this show was so powerful, it had me laughing when the laughed and crying when they cried. The unconditional love they showed was so empowering. I am wondering if there is a female group like this?

Dear Gentlemen, I just watched about you on PBS. I enjoyed it a great deal. It touched my heart. My eldest brother, Jon died in 1992 of Aids. I come from a large family and we loved him as well as his friends. Him being gay never was a issue. He was just Jon. I miss him terribly. He was my parent figure, So he was more than just my brother. I send deep love and affection to your members.

I just finished watching the Power of Harmony on PBS. Thank you for bringing the perspectives of people, who happen to also be homosexual in a way that shares the struggles of rejection and loss many of the members of the gay community face. The program aired on PBS helped me ponder about how to reconcile the belief system of Christians to the spiritual needs of many members in the gay community. The program touched my heart. Thank you, Patry

I always have enjoyed going to the Christmas concerts. Whenever I have felt down it always picks me up and makes me feel better to go to TCC concerts and events. Wow! As the mother of a gay teen and the co-president of a recently formed PFLAG chapter in the Rochester, NY area thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! Your Power of Harmony dvd is truly inspirational. How wonderful for my 17 year old gay son (who participates in his high school's show choir, chorale and musicals) to hear your stories. Dr. Tim, You may not remember me, but I remember you and your fine singing from our days at North Texas State University. You and I last connected when we competed for first place at NATS at SMU. (I sang Handel's Care Selve in the final round.) I am a soprano and was a student of Virginia Botkin's. I am a sixteen year member of the Chorus of the Metropolitan Opera Company. I was so pleased to come across your wonderful work with the Chorale. I hope to be able to attend a concert when I visit my sister in Plano this summer. Please also express my fondest regards to A.G. Black, a great friend of mine with whom I sang for several years in Lufkin,TX. I would love to hear from him if you are able to pass along my email address. All the very best continued success in your impressive musical endeavors. Sincerely,Charlotte Philley

After searching for quite a while for a recording of "The Awakening", I finally came across "Let Music Live." I must say, this is one of the most fantastic recordings of this song I have ever heard. I grew up in the DFW area and have been doing choral singing for almost 20 years, starting in Dallas, and now in Chicago. I was fortunate enough to sing The Awakening on two occasions, once my sophomore year of high school (SATB w/piano), and then my senior year (1999) as 1st chair bass with the Texas All-State Choir (TTBB w/piano). To hear a recording with the full orchestra blew my mind. The sound was beyond words!! Please keep performing pieces like these by Joseph Martin. I would also recommend looking into Morten Lauridsen, Rene Clausen, Dede Duson, just to name a few. Good Luck with all your future recordings and performances!

Dear friends, About 15 years ago, in a small gay and lesbian bookstore in Albuquerque, I purchased my very first TCC CD - From the Heart. I was in the midst of a significant transition in my life - I was leaving my job at an AIDS Service Organization in Phoenix, AZ and headed into Religious Life as a Franciscan Friar. Your music touched me in ways that I just cannot express in words - but having lost over 200 friends in the preceeding 4 years - your music left me speechless.
Over the years, I have purchased and enjoyed every single TCC CD. Imagine my surprise when logging on to your site a month or so ago and found your 2 Christmas DVDs, the BREATHE Book and CD, and of course, the Power of Harmony DVD. My Christmas was now complete.
I have never been able to get to Dallas for any TCC concert - so try to imagine if you will, some strange man sitting in his living room in Barrow, Alaska (350 miles North of the Arctic Circle) watching the three DVD's over and over and over and over again. The humor, the celestial sounds, the power, the emotion of the Poinsetta dedications, the richness, the purity, and yes, the grace - the Amazing Grace of your music made me believe I was sitting in the front row of a TCC concert.
It was then I decided that my friend Margaret and I would somehow, someway - get to Dallas in 2006 for your Annual Christmas Concert. Coincidentally, a few days after watching the Power of Harmony, I just happened to run across TCC member Rusty Allen on-line and we have enjoyed dialoguing about the TCC over the past few weeks. So, it is my hope that sometime in December of this year, I will come to Dallas, perhaps catch a dress rehearsal (if that's allowed) and then sit in awe and wonder as I attend my first LIVE TCC concert.
Thank you one and all - for filling my life with hope and vision, and for allowing me to remember, cherish, and celebrate with great fondness all those we have lost over the past 20 years. May God's Amazing Grace's be yours!

You guys did it again. You provided a top notch holiday concert that warmed the hearts and souls of audience. The TCC music reaches beyond race, gender and sexual orientation. The music truly unites friends and family members in a common bond of love. I always invite extended family and friends to experience the magic. I truly believe that your music reaches out to people. The music breaks down walls of ignorance and misunderstanding. The concert always brings the true meaning of peace and love through music. Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!!

The Christmas concert was wonderful! But i really wanted to write this morning to express my sincere empathy for Mr. Hodnett who lost his life partner Monday. Thank you for having courage and performing in spite of your loss. My heart goes out to you. -Lorie

My partner and I saw Power of Harmony at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival. I lost a dear friend to AIDS last year so I was especially moved by this story of survival. The TCC members are amazing role models for both gay and straight youth. I hope to attend one of your concerts in the future. P.S. My partner requested a TCC CD for X-mas!

OMG!! I saw last year's perfomance and coming this year with Youth First Texas. I would just like to say that I am so inspired. I am going to audition in January.

In the midst of recent events in the papers, I want to say to all the pundits, THE TCC IS BACK! I came yesterday with a group of friends from out of town, and who had never seen you guys perform. They were quite simply awestruck. And I was so moved by the performance that I was able to find an extra ticket with a friend that who had someone cancel at the last minute for the evening show, and I came back to see it again! I will also be bringing as many people as possible to your next three shows. Music does build a bridge and rips down all walls, and each and every one of you do it so eloquently, and with a beauty that is unparalleled in Dallas and in our nation. Dallas is so lucky to have a group like you out there signing for us so magnificently. You make us laugh, cry, and remember that we are all just human beings at our core, and your music is one the things that brings a light of hope into this world. And to Dr. Seelig, I wish to thank you for toughing it out for your guys and for us as the community. We need more people in Dallas like you Dr. Seelig. Your love and passion brings a light of hope to all of us in Dallas. It was evident from what I saw yesterday that every guy on that stage believes in you, and a member of the community I believe in you. Keep doing what you are doing; keep the magic and beauty alive in the language of musical splendor. As one person in the lobby said to me after the evening concert, "I was just lifted to heaven". BRAVO!

Are you going to have your Christmas show this year on TV? I have been trying to find it, but to no avail. I don't want to miss it and want to tell others when it will be also. Thanks for entertaining us so.[note from the TCC: We do have our 2003 & 2004 HOLIDAY DVDs available at our Online Store. This year our 2005 HOLIDAY performance, Still Dreaming of a White Christmas, can only be seen live at the Meyerson on 12/4, 12/19, 12/20, 12/21.]

Thank you for your wonderful performance on the portico at Arlington Hall at Lee Park last night. Threat of rain and strong winds notwithstanding, the "Light up Lee Park" event was well attended and is sure to become an annual occasion for the community. We share your striving for excellence and look forward to our future collaboration and successes. Thank you, neighbors. Frank Reedy, President, Lee Park and Arlington Hall Conservancy

My Brother, Peter Mena is in your wonderful chorus. I wish you all lived here in San Diego, so that I get a chance to see your Christmas concerts. And any other concerts I could get my hands on! You all are a wonderful group to hear, I did have the pleasure of hearing you in concert once, here in San Diego about 5 years ago. Don't you think it's about time you came back? Think about it! I havent had a chance to see the films that have been featured but I plan on doing so in the near future. You all are an inspiration to all Humanhood. I wish you well in the coming years!! P.S. My daughter Ashleigh absolutly loved your performance she had seen the group rehearsing and could not wait for her daddy to hear you guys. Thank you for helping to make her trip extra special.

Like others in your guestbook, I saw the film, The Power of Harmony, at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival. The music was uplifting, and the stories told were memorable. Are there plans for a release in theaters? Or a DVD available? I'm sure many people(who can't attend film festivals or a trip to Dallas) would appreciate this film.
Barbara D. Mayer Asheville, NC - Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 18:07 (EST)
James visited last week, and we all watched The Power of Harmony together. The production company was kind enough to send me a DVD since I had to miss the premiere at the Hot Springs Documentary Festival. It was FABULOUS! It caused me to cry tears of sadness and joy, to feel the power of love and a bitter indignation, to laugh out loud and smile deep within, and its music brought touched me deeply.
Last evening I had a dinner and a movie party for six close friends and colleagues. The special feature was your documentary, which they had to miss because they went to the festival the second weekend. They were just knocked over by it. I was so proud to have "connections" so it could be seen in Shreveport, and I plan to continue sharing it with everyone I know. Its message is such an important one.
Love and thanks to all of you guys! Pam Eakin :-) (James's mom)

I do not cry or scared watching movies, but could not help my tears when I saw this wonderful film at Hot Springs Doc Film Fest. It depicts a beautiful image of gay men from south. Well Done! Keep it up.
Khan Hot Springs, AR - Sunday, November 3, 2005 at 11:03 (EST)
I just saw the movie yesterday (for my birthday) at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and I absolutely loved it. Of the six films I saw this was without a doubt the best. It was wonderful to see such a positive representation of gay men in the South. I was touched by the attitudes of the director and the chorale members and the strengh they showed even though they had lost 140 members throughout the years. I am also proud that there is a city not too far from where I live that has such a fabulous experience for gay men. I hope that seeing this film makes many people realize that homosexual men do not fit any particular stereotype. As an avid music lover and former member of my college choir I appreciated the music as well. I don't think I have ever seen a more talented and humble choir conductor in my life. Thank you for making this film and for having this chorale, and hopefully when I am in town I can see them in person!
John Fulmer Arkadelphia, AR - Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 18:16 (EST)
I attended the Hot Spring Documentary Film Festival this past weekend. I saw about 30 films. The Turtle Creek Chorus film was one of the best I've ever seen and was the best of the festival. Being a gay man, I could truly resonate with all the joys and sorrows that the members of this group feel - the challenges with religion and family and the hope for societal changes in the near future to make sexual orientation a non-stigmatized fact of life. Also, as a man with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, I felt at home with the wonderful music. Three cheers for a wonderful film about a tremendous group of men that serve as a resource and role model for finding the best in people.
James French N. Little Rock, AR - Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 14:53 (EST)
I had been warned to take plenty of tissues with me to the movie. From the opening to the end, I was choked up or my eyes were seriously watering. As a gay father with two gay children, I can relate to so much of the film's content. I have most of your CDs and always enjoy listening to them. They never get old. I hope the whole world gets to see this powerful film and that it eventually will be available as a DVD. Keep on carrying your message!
Jim Miner Dallas, TX - Friday, October 7, 2005 at 18:37 (EST)
I went to see this very moving movie about the Turtle Creek Chorale and was moved by the closeness to home that some of the testimonials hit. I too am a gay father of a young daughter and have had difficulty with the guilt I feel about the marriage to my ex-wife and the disastrous effect of my "coming out" and subsequent divorce. I want to thank the Turtle Creek Chorale for opening your hearts to the community in such a way. It was cathartic for me to watch and realize that I did nothing malicious, and that I am OK today. I am a wonderful father and, well if I may brag, a damn good ex-husband. Anyway, thanks for being there.

WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!! We evacuated to Dallas during Rita and my brother and Reed took us to see "The of Harmony", absolutely wonderfully done!!!!! Bravo!!!!My mother's response was that documentary was better than a years worth of counselling!!!!! I cannot wait until it comes to Houston Angelicka in Houston. I want everyone I know to see "The Power of Harmony". Thank you!
Pamela White Houston, TX - Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 9:18 (EST)
Thank you for bringing me "up short". When I first arrived in Dallas I arranged for an audition, but backed out because I was having difficulty with the identification. I tried another local chorus and am active in area theatre - but my heart goes on singing. You've given me the courage and kick in the rear to do it this time. I'll be there, first in line, next round of auditions. I can hardly wait for August of '06!!! Thanks (especially Chuck Sweatt and Ralph Blackburn).

I met a few of your members today at the fast food restaurant that I work at and did not get the chance to say how wonderful I think you guys are. Not just by means of talent but also for just who you are. You are all amazing for being proud of who you are and being an inspiration to others that may need it.
Rami TX - Sunday, October 2, 2005 at 23:47 (EST)
My brother John Johnson is in the Chorale and I would like to say a big THANK YOU for all you do in your brotherhood. My brother struggled for the longest time with being gay. Unfortunately, my family and I moved away from the Dallas area last October and left him there all alone. I feel great comfort that he has all his friends in the chorale, and I know you are all looking after him. I have only had a chance to see one performance, and it was so beautiful. Please keep up the fantastic work that you do and I hope and pray that the world will one day accept every one of you for who you are!
Jeff Wooten Albuquerque, NM - Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 15:05 (EST)
You never fail to move me to tears. I noticed your respectful link to those who are no longer part of an earthly choir, and I saw the name of Kent Naasz, with whom I shared an experience of Lutheran exile more than three decades ago. I had no idea who I was back then. In the last two years, and following nearly a quarter of a century as a Lutheran pastor, I moved to Chicago from Northeastern Ohio, and joined the United Church of Christ. This summer, I was proud to attend our General Synod in Atlanta, at which a marriage equality resolution was passed. I remember people like Kent, and I wish I had a chance to know him as you knew him. I sang with the North Coast Men's Chorus for eight seasons and am beginning my third season with the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus. There simply is no better representation of our community than the gay choral movement, and I salute you as foremost among us.Bill Bordonaro Upper baritone

This film was a wonderful experience. I have enjoyed the TCC on many occassions. However to now know all the people involved somewhat more personally just grabs your heart. I am so glad all these men have found a home together. I pray that everyone could see and enjoy this film, then they might have more of an understanding for the gays / lesbians around them. I also hope Ginny wins on this film, they all deserve it. Congratulations on an awesome, heart moving story. I just hope there will be a DVD of this made. I plan to show it to all people who think being gay is a choice.
Wynde M. Miller Dallas, TX - Monday, September 26, 2005 at 16:46 (EST)
This is an absolutely wonderful film about humanity within the context of music. Everyone should see it! I would like to buy a DVD of this movie if one becomes available. Dallas is truly blessed to have such a wonderful organization as the Turtle Creek Chorale.
Michael Bell Duncanville, TX - Sunday, September 25, 2005 at 23:36 (EST)
My husband and I were priviledged to see the film on September 16th. We were delighted to be greeted by Tim and some of the guys. We were so moved by the stories and were glad to see that some of them turned out well and were very sad at the family that turned away from their son. Both of us are musicians and singers. I work with high school singers as a voice teacher and I have seen some of the struggles first hand. I try to encourage these students to be themselves and I always let them know where I stand and that they can come to me when they might not be able to talk to their own parents. It is so sad how closed minded people are. I only hope that a lot of people go to see this film and that it may wake some of them up to the injustice and the hurtful things that are being done in the name of "GOD". I loved the music in the background and watching the love that you all have for each other. You are a great "family" and wonderful singers and performers and we look forward to your next season of concerts. Thanks for being there. Wini Council

Carolyn and I saw The Power Of Harmony this afternoon. The music was great as always. But I was moved to tears with the adoption and the stories of rejection, the glimpses of men we knew and when we took Kris and Bobby Vinson's quilts to Washington. My biggest regret is that we have failed to keep up our contact you men.
John Shinn Dallas, TX - Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 22:21 (EST)
I loved the movie, but wanted to know more about how TCC got started. The movie didn't answer the questions I had going into the movie like, how does one become a member? How long is the average tenure of a member? What are the requirements of becoming a member? Who does the choreography and picks the "skits"? General stats like that I was looking for. Otherwise the movie was excellent and well done. {note from tcc . Roni will be contacted}

I saw The Power of Harmony this weekend and was so moved by the film! Tim Seelig's story, among others, is precisely the reason I left the Baptist church and will never darken its doors again. I will never again be involved with ANY religion that would brainwash its members into rejecting their own children! Rock on, TCC!!! I love you! Sherry

As I no longer live in the metroplex. I sent the email I received on the POWER of HARMONY to my daughter and son-in-law in Dallas and asked that they go to view the film for me. They were very moved by the presentation and shared with me their positive impressions of the movie. They have attended several of your performances as I had when I lived there. This film moved them to feelings of anger and advocacy regarding the lack of tolerance which exists. Thank you. Some day, I hope I can see the film.

I attended the September 15th premier screening at the Angelika Theater. I have been going to the Chorale concerts for over 10 years. You guys are fantastic. I hope Ginny Martin wins an Oscar for best documentary. The story moved me to tears of joy. The stories on the screen touched on several issues involved in the coming out process. I felt in many ways that portions of my story were told through the eyes of my TCC brothers. I encourage everyone to go see this amazing piece of art. You will never be the same. You will be moved and encouraged by "The Power of Harmony"

Am very proud to say that I had the opportunity to see your debut at Carnegie Hall in '93! Since I was part of the 'Magnificat' Choir directed by John Rutter, I was able to see the entire performance from the balcony before we had to perform. You guys were so wonderful! Loved the show, really loved the cruise after, and really enjoyed meeting so many of your group. Keep singing and spreading your message! Love you guys!

I have had the rare pleasure of singing with the boys of TCC and the Women's Chorus of Dallas not once but twice. I sing in the Alamo City Men's Chorale in San Antonio and several years ago they were our special guests in concert. Our audience members are still talking about it. It was a WONDERFUL experience for all of us. The men and women from Dallas could NOT have been more gracious. We got to sing together again this past season at the Texas Choral Round-Up at the Myerson in Dallas. The men and women of Dallas were perfect hosts. Many new friendships were made and old frindships rekindled. Note to GALA Artistic Directors: if you ever have the opportunity to work with Dr. Tim and any group under the TCC umbrella .... make it happen. It will change you, as it did me.

Let me just say that your music is awe inspiring! I have heard clips and samples, and that it moves me every time I hear your music. As a college student that sings in a University choir, and is also gay, I think it is wonderful what your organization does. I hope to some day be a member of such a wonderful group like the Turtle Creek Chorale. Best Wishes for everything in the future.

You guys are incredible! Absolutely incredible! I recently got a hold of one of your CDs, the "Let Music Live" CD to be specific, for one song in particular: The Awakening by Joseph M. Martin. When I heard it, I wasn't expecting what I heard: full orchestra accompanying a massive Mens' Chorus singing an absolutely gorgeous song about how important music is to our everyday lives. The song brought tears to my eyes, and I will never forget that astounding performance, from the simple "I dreamed a dream" to the tear-jerking "No Allelulia" to the jarring "Awake, Awake!" to the final "Let Music Live!" You guys are fantastic, and I just can't say it enough.

My husband and I saw the presentation on April 10th and were absolutely spell-bound! I was truly overwhelmed by the music. The only downside to this experience was that the view from Section E of the Orchestra was poor and we were unable to view all of the screen. Although the music was extremely powerful, it did distract from the overall experience by having to lean forward to see the viewing of Joan of Arc. It would be nice if the seats had been listed as having a partial view. However, we're both glad that we attended the performance and will attend if the TCC ever does it again. Thanks for the evening.

Tonight was truely the most riveting, thought provoking, soul stirring, piece of work I have seen the TCC do in the eight years I have been to your concerts. Dr. Seelig is a genius for taking on this stunning piece of work. Yet again, the TCC has found another way to reach out to their audience and captivate them all over again, as if it was the audience members first concert. Bravo TCC and Dr. Seelig! Anyone who missed tonights concert...this is a MUST SEE!

Watching the performance last Sunday, being on the aisle on the fourth row, feeling the hands on my shoulder, shaking hands, looking into loving eyes of those who walked down to the stage made it all so special. We moved (back for me) to Dallas in 2003 and I was able to bing my partner to the Christmas concert, always a very moving experience, not only because of the quality of the singing but because it allows me to reflect on those we have lost, and that they were each one individual people, much loved and much missed. When I found your site, especially the memorial page, I was pleased to be able to have a moment with many of the names there. I wish the pictures had been working that day but I will come back to spend time with them again. Now we have moved to San Francisco and we miss you terribly. SING!

Hello Dr. Tim and Chorale. Great concert last night on the 25th anniversary show. I can't believe my first TCC show was back in 1990. You all have grown up quite a bit since then. You mentioned last night you are trying to reach a $150K goal to have the video produced and aired. I'd like to help with a donation. I will contact you via a different media to find out to where I can send a check.
God bless you for the work you do.

Big Mahalo!
Thank you for inviting me to participate in the 25th Birthday Bash! It was exciting to see old friends. Sitting in the audience brought back old memories and hope my neighbors didn't mind me singing along. I really miss TCC. Watching the video brought back many challenges we faced as a tender group. As Tim said, we only thought it was about singing together. We never thought that the family demanded more. Thank you for the opportunity to sing again. You tend to spoil people who have moved on and can't find a group that have the same demands and goals. Thank you for reaching for the stars. And thank you going beyond. Mahalo! come see me in Honolulu.

Back in 1986, I began a very unique journey with Tim Seelig as my voice teacher at HBU in Houston. My dearest Tim, I only hope you know that what you taught my in those many, many lessons those years ago had very little to do with voice or music at all, but had everything to do with life and humanity and how to be a man in a hard knock life. Thanks Tim. I've followed your lessons and have remarked often that I studied with the master, which is not an easy subject to broach up in the midst of a conversation about "Desperate Housewives." But still, here's to old friends and better still, to teachers of life! Peace my friend and thank you for what you have meant to me!

I simply wanted you all to know how much my mum and I enjoyed your concert on December 15th. Brillant!!! Touching and so funny that we truly laughed 'till we cried! All of your talented souls are such a blessing for the city of Dallas!!!
Just for fun -- thought I would mention that you should check out Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's CD of Everything You Want for Christmas -- Mum and I think that the tune "Mr. Heatmiser" would be perfect for the Chorale to do for a Christmas concert!!!!
Many bright blessings!!!

I love your music and we have seen several concerts in Dallas. Last weekend on the NPR they played "The Jalapeno Chorus" which broke me up. A group at work is doing a skit for a Xmas party & I wonder if you could provide me with the lyrics. Obviously we would be doing it as a joke skit since we are not accomplished singers.

I attended the Dec. 15 Turtle Creek Chorale Festive Flashbacks concert at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center. My son treated 10 of our family members with his annual surprise Christmas gift. Two days before the event, we were allowed to hear his choice for this Christmas season. My first time experience with your Chorale was delightful & heartwarming. Congratulations on an astounding group!

Just returned from the Meyerson...first time I have seen TCC perform. My brother and I had always wanted to see your show but never had the chance to go. He died last December and we never got to make the performance last year. So this year my other brother and I went to the show and I just want to say how wonderful it was, and how overcome with emotion I was with your tribute and dedication and the so loving Pointsetta tree. Thank you so much for a great evening and sharing your terrific voices with us. I will save my money to buy next years tickets and I hope to take my husband and children the next time. With warmest regards, Elizabeth Garcia and In Spirit, Roy Palomino (my deceased brother)

In the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle the TCC Christmas Concert is always a welcome- and much needed- break! My uncle invited my fiance and I to the November 28th show, and it marked our third year to spend an evening during the holidays with the TCC. I wanted to thank you all for sharing with us your great musical talent and reminding us what Christmas is all about. Not only does your concert bring my family together every year to celebrate Christmas, but it brings us together to celebrate my uncle and his wonderful friends that he has made with you gentlemen. Thank you for reminding all of us each year that Christmas is not about material presents, but about unconditional love and God's presence that abides in eachand every one of us. You're group is a reminder that friends and family are most important during the holidays, and I thank you again for being such a special part of the holiday season for my family and me. The show was fantastic, and I will see you all again next year! Keep up the great work!

I really enjoyed my first concert last night with the TCC. Congratulations on your 25th season. The skill, the humor, and the touching moments impacted me enormously. So much that there was not a single favorite moment--I enjoyed the entire evening. Not only did I hear the beautiful music, I heard the voice of the TCC speak!! Thanks for such a wonderful gift to my life.

Enjoyed meeting your Director, Dr. Tim, at a music seminar he gave at a church in Lansing,MI. When I asked if TCC had made any CDs, you should have seen the gleam in his eye as he said " I'm glad you asked "as he began passing out CD order forms.
After listening to several of your Web Sites 'musical teasers' I'm looking forward to recieving the 10 CDs I ordered. I loved your Mission Statement.

It would be wonderful to have out of print music for SATB sacred choir that you have composed. Our choir has one piece "In Remembrance". The choir is asking for more of your musice, but I cannot find other pieces. Is there a place I can purchase more of your music?

Just a quick note of appreciation for your response to the "religious" protesters at the Dallas Pride Parade. One of your members, Troy Heine, told us of of your using music to teach and enlighten the group of protesters. I have sung this song with the Cincinnati Men's Chorus and know of its power. Thank you for sharing the gift of music with, not only these people, but the world. On behalf of CMC, we're proud of you!

Just a note to relate what your presence at the Alan Ross Freedom Parade commemorating Dallas Pride meant to me and my friends. We had a great time but were a bit dismayed to see "religious" protesters across from the end of the parade at Lee Park. We just happened to be passing by as the Turtle Creek Choir group were finishing their march. They then assembled and faced the opposition and broke into singing "I Ain't Afraid" to the stunned small group of 10-15 people. By the end of the rousing song a very large group of us had gathered with you in solidarity and erupted in cheers and applause. It was a very peaceful and appropriate response to a confused and misinformed people. Thank you for that moment that I will never forget.

I was at the Texas Choral Roundup 9/18/04.
Since my days hosting/producing Lambda Weekly on KNON-FM 89.3, I have heard everything that TCC has done.
Being at a TCC concert is, in itself, a fabulous evening.
BUT to be there to hear 550 voices and musicians from all over Texas IN THE MEYERSON was, quite frankly, OVERWHELMING!
I walked to the Cathedral Garage with a wet spot in my back pocket ... where my tears-soaked hankerchief was.
IF you can pull this off annually ... I WILL BE THERE every year!

"Normal," Presumptuous name, isn't it? Actually comes from Illinois State "Normal" University, now Illinois State University. In the Old days, "Normal" indicated a teacher's college, but ISU dropped the "Normal" to be come a full Liberal Arts University, thus leaving the town that grew up around it a Presumptuous name.
I recently ordered and received the "Journey" CD. I'm a clergyperson who, while strait, values the diversity of God's creation. I have a hearing deprivation, hence, I cannot hear all of the words in the song. Is there some way I can receive a copy of the words for this song. What I can hear indicates how very powerful it is, and I would like to use the music and words in some of my sermon/meditation material.
Thanks for producing this song. I first heard it sung at the Association of Professional Chaplain's meeting in Kansas City, earlier in 2004. I was very moved by it, as were many of my collegues.
Keep up the good work.

I was a singing member and an officer in the TCC from 1995-2000. Dr. Tim and the Chorale brought me out of the closet and set me on the path toward freedom, self-respect, and honesty. Since moving to the East Coast, I've tried to recapture that experience by singing with two other men's choruses here, but nothing can ever match the gifts I received in Dallas. To quote a certain car company's advertising slogan, "There is no substitute!" Love you all and miss you.

Great work - I sang with the Seattle chorus from 1989 to 1999 - and miss it sometimes terribly here in Boise - but with CD's from you guys, SF, and Seattle I can chorus out whenever i want to.
